Dandruff:


The medical term for dandruff is Mild Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. This is displayed as an overgrowth of dead skin cells on the scalp. Skin cells shed every 2-7 days instead of every 287-30 days.

Causes: Overproduction of yeast (Malassezia yeast) and oil/ sebum or sebaceous secretions.






Scalp Psoriasis:


About 7.5 million Americans suffer from Scalp Psoriasis. Immune systems disease is where the body's immune system overreacts causing inflammation on the scalp which leads to an imbalance in the scalp's skin cell turnover the cycle. New cells then form in days instead of a 28-30 day period. If the body can shed skin or keep up with dead skin removal thick patches of dead skin appears.





Seborrheic Dermatitis:


Caused by an overproduction of sebum and yeast in the sebaceous gland.







Treatments:

  • Shampoo hair/ Scalp regularly to remove dead skin and sebaceous secretions from the scalp and hair shaft

  • Soften and remove scales from your scalp and hair in a routine

  • don't use styling products for the hair shaft on the scalp.

  • sulfur in food like onions

  • use medicated shampoo/ conditioner

  • to limit the use of products containing high levels of alcohol. if you were your hair straight use an oil-based heat protectant.

  • limit the number of styling products.
