Minoxidil for hair Growth?

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

In this, blog post we will talk about Minoxidil for hair growth. I was a little confused. Why do people want to learn about Rogain? Minoxidil was introduced in the early 1h970s as a treatment for hypertension :high blood pressure. A side effect of this medication was hypertrichosis: Hair growth in different areas on the body. This was seen in patients that took the drug orally.

Once they saw that side effect they decided to go deeper into it to create a topical product for the skin.

This was mainly for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. This is the most common form of hair loss men and women. Organically the product was 2% minoxidil in 1986 and then they went up to 5% in 1983.

How to increase active enzymes within the body coming to Guru VIP 8/5/2022

Minoxidil is not the proform of the medication meaning it's not converted to its active form of minoxidil sulfate. This conversion process is done by an enzyme called the sulfotransferase enzyme. This enzyme can be found in the outer root sheath of the hair follicle. The higher the enzyme activity within the body the better the response. It opens up channels for potassium channels or smooth muscle. That's how it works to lower blood pressure in the oral formulation.

Minoxidil works by prolonging the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle. Watch this video to learn more about the body's hair growth cycle.

Active enzymes are drastically decreased when the scalp is under oxidative stress. Oxidative stress slows down the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle limiting the number of emerging hairs from the follicle. These limiters are known as but are not limited to oxidative metabolism, smoking, uvr, and inflammation from microbial, pollutants, or other organs of scalp/follicle inflammation basically a clogged follicle and dirty scalp slow down the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle.

Avoid aspirin "acetylsalicylic" while using minoxidil. Aspirin inhibits the enzyme "exposing" the liver

There are only 2 drugs approved by the FDA for the treatment of anagenic alopecia, Alopecia Areata, beard, and eyebrow enhancement. Rogaine comes in a foam or a solution. The original formulation contains propylene glycol which helps the product get to the hair follicle but causes local irritation in the area of application. The foam came second for easier application with less irritation and dries faster.

Men use 1ml of 5% solution twice a day or 1/2 cap of foam twice a day.

Women 1ml of 2% solution twice a day or 1/2 5 foam once a day. Women will experience hair growth on the face and other parts of the body if used in large amounts. Only about 1.4% of the topical formula is absorbed through the scalp. You will need to take it orally for full benefit!

The studies have shown that less than 40% of patients actually see hair growth after using this treatment for a 4 month period.

Cons Topical:

  • poor regrowth

  • twice daily application

  • undesirable texture

  • shedding phase extended

  • Scalp irritation

Low doses of minoxidil are safe for hair growth no more than 5mg but any higher can be lethal because of its original use. High blood pressure.

For hypertension internally they use 10-40 mg per dose

0.25 mg women(daily) for female pattern hair loss. 1mg for men.

Side Effects Topical:

  • Contact dermatitis

  • Headaches

  • Hypertrichosis

Side Effects Orally/High doses:

  • Different types of fluid retention problems

  • blood pressure changes

You will lose hair if you stop! It takes 12-24 weeks for the hair to start falling out. This is a temporary fix for a permanent change you must master your hair growth cycle. You can increase your anagen phase naturally. Quick fixes are not always the answer, but if you're already applying this method please do it with the right help and instructions.

If the pro's outweigh the cons for you here are a few recommendations.

Thanks for the information. I have been learning a lot about my hair and growth cycle through your videos and ebooks! I am scheduled to get a scalp biopsy in 2 weeks but I am wondering if this is necessary for my hair loss and thinning😊
